For my Husband - Year One.
Almost exactly 20 years ago the boy that I would have a crush on, the man that I would fall in love with, and my future husband moved into my small town and became friends with my good friend and neighbour Brook. Nearly 19 years ago, I would move up to the high school and see this tall, lanky, cute boy on a regular basis and we would kind of become friends, you know the kind, friends through friends, so you could all just BE friends!
18 years ago, this tall, lanky, cute boy would move away, as I was getting ready to go into 8th grade, and this would be the time that I would decide to notice how cute he is and how good he is at basketball and just how cool he really is. This would also be the year that I learned how to flirt a little bit so that when he came back into town to visit Brook and Curtis, I would let him give me the first kiss of my life on my parents front porch.
For the next few years of high school, his name, Brady Janzen, would be the name I would scribble on my notebooks, would be the name that would make my heart race when I saw it in my email inbox, or on a note from my parents saying that he had called (which didn't happen as much as I would have liked!)
Almost exactly 12 years ago (August was such a momentus month throughout my life, it would seem!), as I was getting ready to begin my second year of University in Kelowna, and parting ways with my highschool boyfriend, I would learn that this cute boy who had given me my first kiss was moving to Kelowna to live with a friend from Merritt, who would become a close friend of mine. Thank you Sukh for living in Kelowna! It would take us a matter of weeks and a few dates before I had finally snagged him!
Nearly 2 years ago, this man who had been so difficult for me to snag, for so long, decided that he wanted to snag me - he got down on one knee on the dock at my Papa's cabin and asked me to spend my life with him. WOULD I spend my life with him?! I suppose it is tradition, and romantic, and that you have to ask, but he would have known that he didn't need to ask me this "yes or no" question!
Exactly 1 year ago, today, we committed to spend our whole lives together, and I could not, and still can not, imagine having a more perfect day with a more perfect person for me. He makes me laugh on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis and he loves me for exactly who I am. I could spend a full day, probably even two, listing the qualities about him that I continue to fall in love with. We have had such a long road to get to where we are, but I can quite honestly say that these last 2 years have been bliss, and I sometimes have to pinch myself that we ended up in this place, so very happily married, so very in love with eachother, and so very excited to shower all of this love on our little one.
So when I say "Happy 1st Anniversary," I certainly am not just celebrating this last year with you, I am celebrating all of it, every moment of the last 20 years (sound funny to say!). I love you Brady Janzen.
