Grateful
Our situation, at the time being, is not ideal. Living in Chilliwack, driving back and forth to Burnaby for doctors appointments and prenatal classes, early mornings to drive back to Hope to teach Kindergarten! None of it ideal, but this girl could not be happier.
Yesterday was our Kindies first full day at school, thrown in with the Grade 1's, with a new adult who tells them what to do all day long, their first time in school with other kids, their first time walking down the hallway, and having gym, and eating snacks, and playing at the park together. SO many firsts! They were SO excited, all day long, and it was so amazing to be a part of it. On our first trip down the hallway to the gym, a couple of the 1's started running, and naturally, a few of the K's took the cue and started running. We got to the gym, lined back up, walked back to class to try this walking down the hallway business all over again, and they couldn't have been happier. " We get to practice walking down the hallway again?! " Not, "we HAVE to?" but instead, "we GET to?" I love it.
Last night was Brady and I's first prenatal class, and I couldn't have fallen more in love with the guy had I wanted to! We began the class with introductions - the female was to tell the group the sex of their baby (if they knew it, which we don't), and choose one word to describe the pregnancy. I, of course, chose "great," as choosing the word "easy" would not have made the woman beside me who chose "difficult" feel very good. Brady's job was to tell the group how far along we are, and to share the name of the hospital we are delivering at. We were to be the second group to share, and Brady was IN my ear trying to get me to tell him how far along we were, so as not to be embarassed! I am sure that he was thankful for the husband in the first group to share that his wife was 37 weeks along. Her response? "No. Not even close. Try 25 weeks." Myyyy Brady, bang on, 31 weeks!
He shared, he asked me questions, he even broke the ice when the husbands had to get together and talk about their experience so far! Yes, it was to gripe about sore fingers from giving back massages and losing space in the bed due to the not-so-welcome addition of my snoogle, but still, I love and appreciate him for his enthusiasm - and for his sore fingers and sliver of bed space! I love that he WANTS to learn and that he wants to talk to me about what we learned after class.
However, when we got home, his response to my taste-tasting a yogurt that I wasn't quiiiiite sure was still good - "Birth better not be like sour milk, because that's the only thing I can't handle." Perhaps it will take a class or two more for him to realize that it is quite possible that birth may even be WORSE than sour milk!
I have been a little uncomfortable lately, my ribs are quite sore, and the top of my belly is feeling like I have some pulled muscles. After my midwife appointment today, I learned that our wee one is ahead of the grade and appears to be trying to stand, which has shot his head up into my ribs, ouch! Yes, it hurts, and no, it isn't the ideal position - but my wee one is standing, and he's not even born yet! :)
No, some situations in my life are quite far from ideal right now, but how can they not be overshadowed by the other experiences that we are going through right now?! Life is certainly good.
