You are THREE and you LOVE Trick or Treating
Sweet darling, we have had a busy end of October and beginning of November. You wait so patiently for your birthday to come, always ready to celebrate the next person in the family, until it is your turn. Our Austy had his third birthday 3 weeks before you, and you could hardly contain your excitement that it would be Halloween next and then YOUR birthday!
For Halloween this year, and for your birthday, the theme was Paw Patrol. It is pretty much the centre of your world right now. You love the show, you love the theme song, you love all of the characters, and your Daddy and I even wondered for a little while if you might be developing your first crush, on Marshall. The fire Dalmatian. And if there was any doubt, it was erased when you began telling people that your baby brother was going to be named Marshall.
Your Mommy could not find a Marshall costume anywhere, so took to the sewing machine and whipped one up the best she could. And I have to say that I am still quite proud of the helmet and little backpack. You were so excited to dress up, and even wore the helmet proudly for the whole night. When people would recognize you and say, "Hey! It's Marshall!" you would calmly reply, "No, I'm not Marshall, it's just a costume." And you would say it with a straight face, no joking, but seriously people, can't you see I'm not a real dog?!
Every time someone would put candy in your basket, you would immediately turn around and yell to Daddy and I what you had gotten. "Daddy, it's liquorice! Mommy, it's skittles!" and then would say thank you politely.
Ava, your excitement about trick or treating, and your excitement about LIFE just makes your Daddy and I excited about life, and excited about you.
You were a little bit confused this year about your birthday, as we had to have your party a day early, on Saturday, because Gramma and Grampa were leaving to New Zealand on your actual birthday. You began your countdown 4 days before your birthday, and you counted it by how many more naps you had to have...who knew you were so good at counting down, smart girl?! You were so lucky to get to have ALL of your cousins at your party, and some other really good friends. Sophia, our neighbour came, as well as Eliana, Tessa, and Gracie. You loved giving your friends their goodie bags filled with play dough, a ceramic piggy bank to paint, and a glow stick, and showing them your playroom and the playhouse in your bedroom. You loved your Marshall cake, and the rice krispie dog bones that we made.
We had rain for days coming up to your birthday and REALLY hoped that we would get some sun for your actual birthday, as we were blessed with a sunny, gorgeous day the day you were born, and two gorgeous days on your first and second birthdays. Annnnnd....the rain disappeared, the clouds parted, and the sun shone through on November 8th, again, and we got to take our third annual trip out to Cultus Lake for a walk on the beach!
Miss Ava, as you get older, you get more fun, and your personality becomes your own every day. You say the funniest things, and we even had to buy a book called, "my quotable kid" to record all the funny things that you say, so that we never forget. You are sassy beyond measure and push us to the limits with the amount that you choose to listen and choose to ignore. Your Mommy has a brother, a father, and a husband who get SO involved in the things that they are doing that they often inadvertantly completely ignore what the people around them are saying. I am not sure if you have witnessed this enough in your short life, or if this is also a characteristic you have, but the amount that you seem completely oblivious to my existence and the words that come out of my mouth can be overwhelming!
Darling girl, my favourite trait in you is how much you notice the world around you, and pay attention to tiniest, and most important things in your world. You notice animal shapes in the clouds, you notice if the moon does not go to sleep until late in the day, and you still see its outline. You notice if there is new snow on the mountain, and if there are birds in the field or in the trees. You notice the sunset and it is your favourite when the color orange streaks across the sky when the sun is going to bed. As our days have gotten shorter, we have realized that you do not remember this season from last year, or the year before, and that it is AMAZING to you that when the sun goes down, you do not have to go to bed. You LOVE going for walks after supper when it is dark outside, and are still a little bit confused about why it is dark and you are not in bed. You notice that the street lights come on when it is dark, and that you can see the stars only when there are not clouds in the sky. You notice headlights on cars and become very concerned if a car forgets to put his headlights on after the street lights have come on.
Sweet Ava, you are already IN LOVE with your baby brother, and I hope that continues once he is actually a physical presence in our lives You say "hi baby, how you doing? Good?" to your little brother nearly every morning and every night. You love to sing to him and tell him things about yourself. It is your favourite when Hailey and Daina let you hold the doppler at our "baby doctor appointments" and you get to find the baby's heartbeat. You enjoy picking new outfits to buy for baby and helping to wash and fold the second hand clothes that we buy. You think it is funny that the baby will be SO small that it fits in tiny pants, but when you put them on, they are short shorts. Ava you regularly put your babies and barbies to sleep in your playroom and then scold Mommy and Daddy if we are being too loud or if we wake your toys up. I asked you if you would be so quiet and thoughtful when your baby brother was sleeping and you quickly said yes, only to adjust your answer to, "maybe not EVERY time." You are going to be THE best big sister, Miss. Ava and we can't wait to see you love your little brother.
