It's hard being a big sister
Our sweet girl, it isn't always the easiest being a big sister, is it? Your Mommy and Daddy thought for a little while that you had been cursed with having to become a big sister at the same time you would become a "threenager," but we don't think you are a "threenager" at all, we just had a little learning to do.
We have had some hard days in the last month, and after one particularly terrible day where Mommy ended up in the hospital with a broken toe and in tears, with Grampa we knew that something had to give. On this day, that culminated in a door-slamming session when Mommy asked you to be quiet because she was teaching Riley to sleep in his crib, we think we have begun to turn a corner.
Darling girl, you are pushing it. You spent a week or so getting out of your bed at night, refusing to go to bed at all, and running away from Mommy or Daddy when we asked you to do something. A week or so, and the phase passed. You spent a week or so asking for one thing after another once you had been put to bed, but like all things, it passed. You spent the first month after your baby brothers arrival doing anything that you were asked to do, and doing things even when you were not asked, because that is just who you are. We took you a little bit for granted I think, and when you gradually started not wanting to help with your brother, we knew that things were going to have change.
It is not always easy having to wait for Mommy or Daddy because we are doing something for Riley, and we know that. It is not easy to have to share the attention right now, but what a gift it is going to be for you, so very soon, when you get to PLAY with your brother!
Sweet bean, we love you so much, and we love everything that you are. Every complicated, hilarious, helpful, emotional little bit of you.
When we were playing with your stuffy cow the other day, I asked you if you knew where milk came from. You promptly grabbed onto your crotch and said, "ya, cows. You grab their gudder and pull, and milk comes out." Gramma taught you that! Ha!
You are in a phase right now where you could spend an hour in your bedroom changing your clothes, and dressing up in the most outrageous outfits. It is my favourite phase yet.
You did not go to daycare for about a month after our Riley boy was born, but then we thought that you needed the kid interaction and time to play with your little friends, but also that Riley needed a little but of the one on one time that you got when you were a baby. You LOVE Sara, and love going to her house on Wednesdays.
On those days, Sara takes you to "coffee break" you always have fun stories to tell us when you get home, about "what Jesus has been up to." One day I was reading to Daddy what you had made at coffee break, and when I was finished, you yelled "AMEN!" from the other room. Daddy thought we might consider switching you to Tuesdays instead of Wednesdays. :)
Darling girl, above all, you are just the best little thing at loving. You love so well. You make Mommy's whole life when you say, "Psssst, Mommy? I love you." Or when you tell me you like my hair, or the pants that I am wearing, or when you ask me how my sleep was, or if I am happy today. You make everyone around you feel loved, with your sweet smile, your gentle hug, your squeezy hug, or your quiet and timid "I love you." Ava, one of my favourite days was the day that you proposed to me. You were asking about Mommy and Daddy's wedding pictures, and what it means to get married ,and how Daddy proposed to Mommy. We explained that Daddy got done on one knee and asked me to spend his life with me, and then you did the same! You got down on your knee, we put on our dresses, made some pipecleaner rings and your Daddy married us. The sweetest part of this was that you were SO excited that you would get to spend our WHOLE life with me. What a lucky Mommy I am.
Sweet bean, we love you so very much, and we know that you are going to make it through this tough part like such a champ, like you always do.

We love how funny you are Ava. We (well, Mommy) think it is so funny and adorable when you pull up your shirt and feed your babies from your "hips," because that is where milk comes from. And we even stifle our laughs as much as we can when you color your pictures so carefully, adding "hips" to each of the girls and boys.
You notice everything, and I mean everything. When you declare, "uh oh! That man in that truck back there pick-ed" his nose," we know that we have to be careful with both what we say, and what we do around you! When we were playing with your stuffy cow the other day, I asked you if you knew where milk came from.
