Our 11 month old Layla

Sweet darling girl, you are 11 months old and you are a GIFT. This week Mama is getting ready to go back to work for the end of the school year and we are preparing ourselves to potentially see a side of you that we have not seen before.

You have been struggling to get to sleep this week, and to be in anyone's arms but mine. Last night we put our patience to the test and tried to let you sort yourself out and fall asleep on your own, like you have always done in the past, but it wasn't happening for you. When Mommy finally when in and picked you up, you were sad. You were taking deep breaths trying to catch your breath, you had my shirt in your fist and your arms wrapped around me as tight as could be, and I didn't want to let you go. As I rocked you and rocked you, listening to your breath grow deeper and your body grow heavier, I was certain you were asleep. When I placed my lips on your forehead to give you a kiss, I saw that you weren't sleeping, in fact your eyes were wide, your body still and you wouldn't break my gaze.

Sweet darling girl, it has always been my dream to be at home with my kids, but money doesn't allow, and to daycare you will go tomorrow. Spending 3 long days a week with little children who I hope will be sweet to you and that you will have fun with. We need to make it 6 short weeks darling, and then we will have a summer at home together.

Darling girl, you are getting so close to crawling. You have figured out how to get on your hands and knees, but then you always push yourself back to your bum. If you really want to get moving, you will bounce up and down really fast, slowly scooting closer to what you want, until you can stretch far enough to reach it. You are very good at pointing to what you want and yelling, letting us all know what it is you want. When there is food or drink close by, you point and yes; "nana!" as though everything is a banana and you want it all. You have learned how to feed yourself and will scarf down anything that is put infront you. When you have had enough, you are not shy to push our hands away or turn your head.

You are a floppy little bunny and think you are so funny when you quickly flop backwards and roll from back to tummy to back to tummy. You have a sly smile and you know when we are amused. You love a good belly tickle and your brother and sister have learned that your armpits and tootsies are ticklish too.

Sweet Layla, when I dreamed of having children, I dreamed of having babies that looked at each other the way that people in love look at each other. I dreamed of you all sitting together, talking and playing without any adults nearby...just enjoying each other. I dreamed of handholding, of laughing, of tickling, or reading books with each other, digging in the sand, swinging on swings. I dreamed it all, and darling girl, we added you to our family and now your Daddy and I have all of those dreams. Your brother and sister ADORE you, and adore each other and our little family is complete.

Sweet baby, you love to wave, to everyone and anyone. You are the friendliest little bean and have smiles for anyone who looks your way.  You can say "Dada" "Mama" and sometimes "hi." You dive out of our arms to go to those you love and cling on with all your might when you are unsure.
You LOVE the outdoors, but like to pop everything you find out there into your mouth. You bring home bits of the beach, pebbles, and wood chips in your cheeks and we have to watch your so closely sometimes to make sure you are safe!

Darling bean, you are almost one, and we can't wait to see what the summer holds for you. Adventure awaits, darling girl.
