Our funny boy, at 15 months
Riley boy, we are convinced that you are going to be the class clown. We are certain of it, each time you do something just for a laugh, and then get it, and then crank it up a notch.
You are one of a kind. You have THE best sassy smile, that you know JUST when to turn on to avoid getting yourself into trouble, or to make your sister laugh instead of scream.
My sweet boy, you are steadily walking, and have even started running when you are getting into trouble and someone is coming to stop you. You do not want to be held when we are outside. You want to walk, you want to go down the stairs at the front of the house, and you figured out how to grab onto the railing to help you get down the stairs all on your own. You have taken after your sister, and you love to swing the man in the moon when you get to the bottom of the stairs.
We have learned that mud puddles are your favourite. You could walk back and forth in a mud puddle for an hour, I'm sure of it. Kicking up water, getting your feet stuck in the mud, and popping up the bubbles that arise. When you fall on the ground, you aren't in a hurry to get back up, and instead you feel the mud and water, and rub it all over your face.
You are going to be a rock-lover, like your sister, but you also love sticks, pinecones, and leaves, and you don't pass up an opportunity to pick them up.
We have had a few nice days, and we get down to the river, and into Harrison as much as we can. We have quickly learned that you will not hesitate to go into the water, and that we need to watch your every move. You love to sit at the waters edge and throw rock after rock into the water, and you love it when Mommy and Daddy throw rocks high into the water to make a big splash.
We are going up to the cabin for May long weekend this year and we can not wait to see you up there, in what we can only imagine will be your element. You came up with us last year, but you were too small to explore on your own.
Sweet baby, you have such a fun personality. You LOVE to laugh, and you and your sister spend lots of time in your crib together, just laughing, and reading books, and wrestling. You like to stir up trouble and then quickly run away, or to prevent to bite or kiss and then roll over laughing.
You are talking A LOT right now! We are sure that your first intentional word (aside from Mama, Dada, and Ada) was "ouch," and you do it and then grab onto your head! You like to say quack, car, cow, cracka (cracker), Nana (which seems to mostly mean banana so far), Gramma and Grampa, and you are attempting every word that you hear.
You LOVE trains and you get so excited when you can hear that one is coming. Ava always makes sure to tell us when she hears them coming, because she knows how much you love them.
We went to stay in Vancouver over Spring Break, and we took you to Granville Island and to Maplewood Farm in North Van, and you LOOOOVED all types of animals. You chased the ducks and the birds, and you were not even a little bit scared to get close the bunnies and try to feed them carrots. Gramma and Grampa have a bunny or two that live under the hedges in their front yard, and every time you see then, you get as close as you can and say "baba! baba!"
Daddy likes to watch the show "planet earth" on tv, and you love to watch it with him. We think that the birds are your favourite so far, but really you are amazed by all of the animals. If you are clingy to mommy, or upset, we know that we can put on Planet Earth and you will calm right down, in the same way we used to sing "head and shoulders, knees and toes" when you were really small.
Darling boy, you LOVE to throw, anything and everything. You are very likely to hurt someone in the near future, as there are no limits to the objects you will hurl, but on a positive, you're getting really strong and you really do have a great arm!
Riley, you are Mama's Boy, and I wouldn't have it any other way. You have taught me how to relax a little bit, and I am lucky for you. Your Daddy and I were such newbies with Ava, and your Mama stressed over everything. I worried that she wasn't sleeping on her own yet, or if she wasn't sleeping through the night (which she did really early), or that she didn't eat enough, or that she started walking or sitting up late. I worried. You, my sweet boy, started sleeping through the night at FOURTEEN months old, good lord, it was time! But it was ok, because you would do it when you were ready. You started walking months later than your sister did, but we knew you would get there, and you were really working hard at it. You started "chatting" way later than your sister did, but then once you started, you just can't stop. And all of it is ok. You are just perfect how you are, and if you are mama's boy now, and a Mama's boy when you are 2, an then 3, and then 4, that will be ok.
We love you so much darling boy, and we are so lucky that Ava has such a rad brother, and that we get such a fun, spunky, sassy little boy to go along with our fun, sassy, and spunky little girl.
