Blessed by this boy

Sweet boy, are we ever thankful for you. We are thankful every single day, but boy have you been our calming presence over the last couple of weeks. Your sister has had a very hard time since we took her soother away- maybe it is because of the soother, maybe it is because she is 3. Some days you do not get to have a good nap because your sister has spent so much time screaming and so little time sleeping that either you don't get a chance to fall asleep or you are woken up and can't get back to sleep. But you hardly ever cry. You are happily carried around, wherever mommy has to go. Your sisters loud shenanigans don't scare you, and when Mommy has to lay you down to help her get back into bed, you just lie there until I am finished.

Riley, I am thankful with how calm and peaceful you are. Your sister was sass, right from the start, and I LOVE that about her, and you, you have been calm and peaceful right from the start.
On days when I feel like I am not going any of it right, on days when I feel nothing but guilt, and on days when things go relatively smoothly, you have a smile for me. On all of the days, even the ones where you hardly get to sleep, you are so very happy. Your smile takes up most of your face, but it is your eyes that smile the hardest.
I have heard the babies can sense the stress and that it stresses them out, and causes them to be fussy, but baby boy, since we had you, I just do not believe it. On days when I feel like my heart could not race faster, all I need is to look at you to slow it down. Are you going to be that boy? Are you going to be the one who watches your sisters door slamming antics, who senses that your mom is going to lose her mind and will say or do the perfect thing to just bring me back down? I know that this is not the role kids are meant to have, and I hope that you won't have to be that person, but I have a feeling that even if you don't end up NEEDING to be that person, you still will be.

Darling boy, you have started to giggle, and oh my goodness, it is the sweetest thing.  At about 3 months old, your daddy started to poke your belly and he got the first giggle out of you, without me there! Lucky Daddy! The very next day, I tried what Daddy had done and got your second giggle out of you!

Sweet Riley boy, we are so, so beyond thankful for you We love you darling!
